How it works

What happens if I die?

If you die whilst a member of the Scheme, your nominated dependants will be looked after.

Life assurance

As an active member of the Scheme, you are covered by a life assurance benefit of four times your annual salary.

By completing and returning an Expression of Wish Form to us, you will ensure that the Trustees are able to quickly identify and provide for your dependants. In most cases, the sum can be paid free of all tax liability and without the need to wait for probate.

A copy of the Expression of Wish form can be found on the Wellness Hub.

You should always make sure that you keep this document up to date to reflect any changes to your personal circumstances.

Spouse and dependant’s pension

If you are married or in a civil partnership and die whilst an active member of the Scheme, your spouse will be entitled to a pension. This will be 2/3rds of the amount you would have received had you survived until Normal Retirement Age and will be based on your DB Pensionable Earnings at the date of your death.

The amount of the pension will be reduced if your spouse is more than 10 years younger than you. In the event that your spouse remarries whilst in receipt of a pension under the Scheme, the Trustee will review the situation and may in exceptional circumstances terminate the pension.

Additionally, if you have children a pension may be payable to them.
